Local couple John and Fiona Fry have organised a charity football match to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
The match, to be held on May 18 at The Sportsman in Chatteris, is between Fry’s Veterans and Kev’s 11’s.
The Fry’s Veterans team was setup after John spoke to his son’s football coach last year.
“The reason we are organising this event is that mum was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in September 2013 and she sadly passed away just before Christmas 2013,” he explained. “My wife Fiona also has links to family cancer as her dad is 10 years clear of bowel cancer.”
“Fry’s Veterans have been training since November last year and we have sadly lost three of our team mates’ family members to cancer,” he said.
The football match event will also have live music, stalls, a raffle, a barbecue and a bouncy castle.
Kick-off for the match is at 11am.
The original fundraising target was £1,000, but £1,240 has already been raised. Therefore, the couple is hoping to double the original target.
