Doddington Short Mat Bowls Club is celebrating its 25th year with a funding gift from Burnthouse Farm Wind Farm.
The more than £1,000 grant has been used on new equipment, including a new electric scoreboard and a blue short mat bowls carpet (pictured), the first of its colour in the area.
“The club has once again started a trend, taking short mat bowls into the new modern era,” the press release states. “The club’s thriving membership of over 30 members are now enjoying these fantastic facilities.”
Burnthouse Farm Wind Farm is located outside of Turves, between Whittlesey and March, and operator REG Windpower offers a £24,000 donation fund to support local causes every year.
Robert Elmore, chairman of Doddington Short Mat Bowls Club, voiced his delight at the grant funding.
“It will allow us to continue building on our success and help us to attract new members from across the community,” he said.
The Club was formed in 1988 and members include ex-England and county players, and won the National Championships in 2010.
Heather Jones, REG Windpower’s community relations manager, said she was pleased to support the club’s members in their anniversary year.
“We look forward to supporting many other exciting projects in the local community over the coming years, and would love to hear from anyone who has any suggestions for the Community Fund,” she added.
